Been thinking a great deal about the technology policies we have in place and how they could prevent innovation. Seeking examples of policies that facilitate and motivate innovation.
Obviously as a policy guy, I think that is a great point. But, the policies, especially at the school level, should just be a manifestation of the will of the community inside and outside of that school. What bothers me is when they are looked at as more than just written statements of the community’s interests … as in, most of us want to do something else, but the policy is written against it … um, rewrite the policy, please. It is a formal step, so it requires everyone to show a greater level of support than they had for the idea before that time, but if there really is positive sentiment in the community to change it, it shouldn’t be that hard … if, there is a good leader. We need more leaders (including teachers) to realize they can make these kinds of changes right now.
